About Me

Tjan Yi Xuan (b. 2003) is a Singaporean composer, pianist and hornist. He started off learning piano from Jeunesse Tan from 2009 - 2018 and Shawn Neo from 2019 - 2021, but discovered his love for composition in his JC years under the tutelage of Mr Lee Ji Heng and Mrs Joanne Yeo Tan. Ever since, he has been exploring composition on many frontiers, even attending the Darmstädter Ferienkurse 2025 as a visitor. Yi Xuan is currently an undergraduate Composition student at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music under Dr Peter Edwards and Dr Tan Yuting.

His current interest is music that makes experimentation part of the listening experience, utilising musical and sonic materials to create poetic, on-edge, whimsical and personal listening experiences.

Yi Xuan has worked with various musicians and groups as composer; such as Andreas Marinello, weird aftertaste, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Daniel Yiau, Jonathan Shin and Michellina Chan, and international ensembles Trio Abstrakt and Mondrian Ensemble.

Passionate about blessing others with music, he actively plays as a keyboardist in church, and was involved in Constellations, a community engagement initiative using music as a medium, and Re:Cinta Wind Symphony, a youth startup pushing for inclusivity and excellence among wind players.

When not composing, Yi Xuan explores other genres of music and art, and other disciplines like graphic design and video editing. He enjoys and occasionally plays open-world video games too, flying and driving around huge maps to find undiscovered spots, sometimes doing the same on real-life nature walks.
